Enter > Project: Each Step a Mantra

Fifteen gouache paintings are sited on documentation of traumatized places. Here, both seeing and painting perform in solidarity with survival.

This is a series of works initiated in 2015, when I was invited to contribute to the Walking Library for Women Walking in Glasgow, Scotland. This portable, hand-painted book was developed through a process of reading, walking and writing. I have collected images of critically altered landscapes from various media sources and reconstructed them through an incremental and layered printing and painting process.

Several documents of my walking performances are integral to this series, which I have developed into a more accurate record of the events that took place there. The paint marks my path of walking through the physical site, creating a body fragmented by the passage of time. These works are imagined as walking labyrinths that can be practiced physical or cerebrally.
